Mac Johnson Wildlife Area is a 532-hectare CRCA-managed conservation area two km north of Highway 29, with 11 km of trails crossing wetland, field, and forest. The 1.4 km Wildflower Loop is a wheelchair-accessible interpretive trail suitable for all ages and fitness levels.
The brief.
Mac Johnson holds the Brockville-area hiking weight — 532 ha of habitat with 11 km of marked trail, picnic shelter, firepit, and washrooms on the north side of the reservoir. Trails are open year-round, including for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing, but are no longer regularly groomed by Cataraqui Conservation.
The Wildflower Loop interpretive trail is the only wheelchair-accessible loop. Inside the city, the 7 km Brock Trail provides a flat, paved walking option through downtown and along the waterfront — connecting the Railway Tunnel, Blockhouse Island, the Aquatarium, and Hardy Park.
The Brock Trail's newer northbound extension reaches Mac Johnson Wildlife Area, linking the two main hiking anchors directly.
