The brief.

Calmwaters Fly Fishing is a guided fly fishing operation based in Fergus, Ontario, run by head guide Jeff Parks alongside guides Alyx Parks, Jamie McClure, and Jim Boni. The team works rivers across South Central Ontario, including the Grand River tailwaters for brown trout, the Maitland River for steelhead, and the Saugeen River for steelhead, smallmouth bass, and musky. Trips run as walk-and-wade guided days targeting trout, bass, and steelhead on Great Lakes tributaries near Toronto. The operation also offers instructional days: Learn to Fly Fish sessions, single-hand rod casting lessons, spey casting lessons, and a Women in Fly Fishing day led by Alyx Parks. Waders, rods, and reels are provided as needed.

    Learn to Fly Fish

    For: 1-2 anglers / beginners

    Four-hour introductory session covering casting, mending, knot tying, and choosing flies for different conditions. Designed for one or two anglers new to the sport.

    Walk and Wade Guide Day

    For: 1-3 anglers

    Full guided day on Great Lakes tributaries near Toronto targeting brown trout, smallmouth bass, and steelhead. Includes Ontario steelhead trips on rivers across South Central Ontario.

    Women in Fly Fishing

    For: 1-2 anglers / women

    Guided fly fishing day curated for women anglers and led by guide Alyx Parks. Covers on-water instruction and fishing for one or two participants.

    Three-hour single-hand casting lesson covering front hand, backhand, and double haul technique for one participant.
