The brief.

Riot Axe is an indoor axe-throwing club at 101 Beverley Street in Guelph, Ontario, founded in 2016 and a founding member of the International Axe Throwing Federation (IATF) — by its own account the only IATF-accredited venue in the city. The venue runs year-round, with public drop-in throwing five evenings a week (Wednesday through Sunday), private group events for 6–20 guests with a dedicated coach and staff-organized knockout tournament, and six-week IATF leagues in Standard, Premier, Big Axe, Knife, and Youth formats. The space holds up to 28 people including spectators, with free on-site parking, a licensed bar serving beer and cider, and outside food permitted. Minimum age 12; under-18s throw with a parent or guardian.

    Drop-Ins

    Open public throwing five evenings a week, with a safety briefing and in-person coaching on arrival. Closed-toe shoes are mandatory — no sandals. Advance sign-up is encouraged to manage occupancy; larger drop-in groups should email ahead. Cancellations or reschedules go to the venue's text line.

    Small Group Event (6–9 guests)

    A 90-minute private session with a dedicated coach handling the safety review, instruction, and a staff-organized knockout tournament. The venue is licensed for beer and cider; outside food is welcome but outside alcohol is not. Booking confirmations come through Schedulista. The full venue holds 28 including spectators, so spectators can come along at no charge.

    A two-hour private session with the same coach-led safety briefing, instruction, and knockout tournament format as the small group, scaled for larger parties. Licensed venue, outside food permitted, spectators free up to the venue's 28-person cap. For groups over 20 or a full venue buyout during peak hours, the operator asks for a direct email or call.

    Spring Lil League (six-week IATF leagues)

    For: Adults (Standard, Premier, Big Axe, Knife) and youth ages 12–17 (Youth Lil League)When: Spring 2026 — sessions start June 8–10 depending on format and night

    Five IATF-rules formats run on a six-week cadence: Standard on Tuesdays or Wednesdays, Premier on Wednesdays, Big Axe on Mondays, Knife on Tuesdays, and a Youth division on Mondays for ages 12–17. Adult nights run practice at 6:15pm and league play at 7pm; the Youth league runs practice at 5:30pm and play at 6pm. Scoring is handled through Axescores.
