Tyendinaga Cavern & Caves.
Guided 45-minute tours of Ontario's largest natural cavern, 15 minutes north of Belleville in the Bay of Quinte
The brief.
Tyendinaga Cavern & Caves is a family-owned attraction on Harmony Road in Belleville, Ontario, about 15 minutes north of the city off Highway 401 exit 556 and roughly 2.5 hours from both Toronto and Ottawa. Charles and Elizabeth Koch have operated the property for over 30 years and run guided tours of the cavern for nearly 20. The site is documented as Ontario's largest natural cavern, with limestone walls left in their original unmodified state, fossils dating back 450 million years, and a constant year-round temperature of about 10°C. Tours run every 30 minutes from mid-May through mid-October and combine an above-ground introduction with underground exploration of formations, glaciation evidence, and local geology.
