The Prep

The Fairy Vista Trail is the easy one - a paved path along Highway 60 with views across Fairy Lake, flat enough for strollers. For singletrack, the Huntsville Mountain Bike Association maintains three trail networks: Hidden Valley (at the ski area), Deerhurst Resort on Peninsula Lake, and Lance's Loops. Limberlost Forest is the wild card - 70 km of trails through rocky shield terrain with free access and no motors. In winter, Deerhurst grooms fat biking trails with equipment rental, and Arrowhead's Lookout Trail (3 km) is rideable on fat tires. The Greystone Gravel Grinder draws riders every May with four distances from 20 to 100 km.

AER Tip

"Check AER conditions before you head out. Air quality and weather can shift quickly — especially during wildfire season and summer smog events."
