The brief.
Free Spirit Tours is a Collingwood-based outdoor operator running guided experiences across South Georgian Bay since 1998. Founder Jennie Elmslie and partner Joel Dawson lead a roster of more than twenty-five guides delivering hiking on the Bruce Trail at Petun Conservation Area, canoe and kayak paddles on the Beaver and Nottawasaga Rivers, caving and rock climbing at Metcalfe Rock, foraging walks with expert forager Brian McLellan-Tuck, forest therapy, snowshoeing, and a three-tier Adventure Kids Camp at Bygone Days Heritage Village. Programs run year-round across six staging locations between Collingwood, Wasaga Beach, Heathcote, and The Blue Mountains, with separate seasonal calendars for summer paddling (May to October) and winter snowshoeing (December to March).

Hiking on the Niagara Escarpment
For: Beginners to experienced hikersWhen: Year-round; daily 9:00am, 10:30am, 12:00pm, 1:30pmA two-hour, five-kilometre guided Bruce Trail hike from Petun Conservation Area on 2nd Line in The Blue Mountains. Knowledgeable guides tailor the route from "easy saunter" to higher-effort. All equipment is included; minimum two participants. Reservations within 24 hours by phone at 705-606-0867.

Adventure Kids Camp
For: Ages 5–12 across three tiers — Trail Blazers (5–6), Explorers (7–9), Adventurers (10–12)When: Summer 2026, July 6 through August 28; Monday–Friday 9:00am–4:00pmEight weekly sessions at Bygone Days Heritage Village, 879 Sixth Street, Collingwood. Activities for ages 7+ include rock climbing, canoeing, wilderness survival, sea kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, swimming, pier jumping, wilderness games, and caving. Paddling — Beaver River
For: Beginners to experiencedWhen: May 18 – October 12, 2026Shuttle to access point and paddle downstream back to base at 236720 Grey County Road 13 in Heathcote. Egrets, herons, and turtles are common river sightings. Boat, paddle, life jacket, safety kit, and brief instruction included; minimum two paddlers. Both river programs are also covered by the Paddling Season Pass ($350 + HST for unlimited 2-hour trips).

Paddling — Nottawasaga River
For: Beginners to experiencedWhen: May 18 – October 12, 2026Out-and-back paddle from Wasaga Sports Park / Jack's Lake at 1888 Klondike Park Road, Wasaga Beach — put in and take out at the same spot. Bald eagles, trumpeter swans, and beavers are regular sightings. Boat, paddle, life jacket, safety kit, and brief instruction included.
$50 per person + HST (2 hours)

Caving at Metcalfe Rock
For: Beginners to experienced; adults and children 12 and underWhen: Spring through autumn; 9:30am–12:00pm and 1:00pm–3:30pm time slotsA 2.5-hour, eight-kilometre tour through limestone caves and crevices on the Niagara Escarpment at Metcalfe Rock, The Blue Mountains. Guides supply helmet, harness, and headlamp. Total beginners are fine; minimum two participants. Crawling, climbing, and getting dirty are expected.

For: Adults and beginners; minimum two participantsWhen: Year-round; Mon–Fri mornings, weekend times varyA 1.5–3 hour slow-pace forest bathing walk at George Christie Trail or Metcalfe Rock in The Blue Mountains. Includes guided invitations, share circles, and a closing tea ceremony framed around phytoncides — essential oils released by trees. Designed for low-mobility comfort with minimal climbing.

For: Adults (wine tasting); beginners to experienced hikersWhen: Spring, Summer, Autumn; 9:30am, 11:00am, 12:30pm, 2:00pmA 45–60 minute Bruce Trail hike from Petun Conservation Area paired with a flight of four wines plus cheese and charcuterie at Georgian Hills Vineyards in Clarksburg. Roughly two hours total; minimum two participants. Hike & Hops and Hike & Cider follow the same format with brewery and cidery pairings.

For: Beginners; minimum two participantsWhen: Paddling seasonStand-up paddleboard instruction on the Nottawasaga River at Jack's Lake (1888 Klondike Park Road, Wasaga Beach), covering paddle strokes, balance, and maneuvering. Wildlife sightings include bald eagles, trumpeter swans, osprey, beavers, and turtles. Professional instruction and all equipment included.
