The brief.

Windrift Adventures began as a racing dogsled kennel 30 minutes north of Barrie, Ontario, and over 25 years shifted its focus from competition to introducing the public to mushing. The kennel houses roughly 225 dogs, primarily Alaskan Huskies with a handful of original Siberian Huskies. Operating from multiple sites near Orillia, Horseshoe Valley, and Moonstone, the team runs guided tours that let visitors drive their own four-to-six dog team rather than ride as passengers. Offerings range from 30-minute introductory runs to full-day trail excursions with a hot chili lunch, with guides covering dog handling, sled mechanics, and stops along the route. Located about 90 minutes from the Greater Toronto Area.

    Half Hour Tour

    A short introductory dogsled experience where guests drive their own four-to-six dog team on a guided run. Covers basic dog handling and sled operation. Pricing assumes two people per sled; solo drivers book two spots.

    $60/person weekdays, $70/person weekends and holidays; +$5 fee per participant

    An hour-long guided dogsled run with a four-to-six dog team. Extended trail time relative to the half-hour tour, with scenery stops and dog discussions led by the guide. Available upon request.

    For: Guests wanting a longer trail experience; minimum age 16 to driveWhen: Winter

    A half-day guided dogsled excursion driving your own team. Includes warm drinks and snacks at a halfway point along the trail, plus scenic stops and guided discussion of the dogs and sled work.

    $180/person weekdays, $215/person weekends and holidays

    A full-day trail excursion with your own dog team. Includes a hot chili lunch served on the trail. Available upon request and suited to guests prepared for sustained time outdoors in winter conditions.
