The brief.
Wye Marsh Wildlife Centre is a registered not-for-profit nature centre on a 3,000-acre property of National Wildlife Area, Provincially Significant Wetland, and Great Lakes-St. Lawrence forest in Tay Township, just east of Midland on Georgian Bay. Opened by Environment Canada in 1969 and run by Friends of Wye Marsh since 1985, the centre offers guided canoe tours through secluded cattail channels from May through August, three-hour private kayak ecotours into remote wetland sections, winter snowshoe ecotours, and a summer and March-break day-camp program accredited by the Ontario Camp Association. The property is a designated Important Bird Area, home to approximately 10% of Ontario's Trumpeter Swan population, eight resident raptor ambassadors, and more than 25 kilometres of accessible woodland and wetland trails.

Guided Canoe Tours
For: All ages; children under 13 with an adultWhen: May–June (Sat/Sun 2pm & 3:30pm); July–August (daily 1pm, 2pm, 3pm)A one-hour guided paddle off the main trail system into the marsh's secluded channels, with chances to see painted turtles, bullfrogs, red-winged blackbirds, and river otters. PFD, paddle, and safety gear are provided, no experience necessary. Sign up on arrival — first-come, first-served — and arrive at least 15 minutes before departure. Tours are cancelled when the humidex exceeds 34°C.

Kayak Ecotours
For: Ages 16+; basic kayaking experience or capacity for three hours of moderate exerciseWhen: May through end of August, daily; choose a start time between 8:30am and 11:00amA private three-hour guided paddle into remote sections of the cattail marsh well beyond the public walking trails, with regular sightings of Least Bitterns and a resident pair of Trumpeter Swans. Tours can be booked in French or English; all equipment including dry bags is provided. Pre-book a minimum of two weeks in advance with Celeste at cleblanc@wyemarsh.com.

Snowshoe Ecotours
For: Ages 13+; no petsWhen: Winter; daily, start times between 9:30am and 12:30pmA three-hour, four-kilometre off-trail guided snowshoe through Wye Marsh's woodlands and wetlands at a moderate pace, with a beginner tutorial included. Guides cover bird calls and animal-track identification, with regular sightings of porcupine dens and deer; a mid-tour hot chocolate or tea break is built in. Animal Encounters
For: All ages (adults and under-18 booked separately)When: May through mid-September, Sunday to ThursdayA private bookable encounter with the centre's resident animals, including day admission to Wye Marsh in the booking. For: Ages 4–12When: March 16–20, 2026; 9am–4pm with early/late care availableA single-week March-break day camp on the Wye Marsh property, run by an Ontario Camp Association member operator. Member pricing is tied to the Annual Family or Joint membership tier; the discount structure is the strongest argument for combining camp registration with a membership.

Summer Day Camp
For: Kinder Camp ages 4–5; Wetlands & Wildthings ages 6–12; Survival Camp ages 10–14When: Summer; registration opens March 27, 2026 at 9amThree named summer camp streams running across the summer, with activities centred on reptile, amphibian, and bird-of-prey demonstrations plus exploration of the centre's 25+ km of wilderness trails. The operator is a member of the Ontario Camp Association; member pricing requires the child to be named on an Annual Family Membership.

Birds of Prey — Sunday Demonstrations & Programs
Live raptor education at 1:00pm on Sundays, included with admission, plus bookable private programs: Raptor Rendezvous (1.5 hours) and Feather Get-Together (50 minutes), both up-close encounters with the centre's eight resident raptor ambassadors — a Bald Eagle, Great Horned Owl, Merlin Falcon, Harris Hawk, Broad-Winged Hawk, Red-Tailed Hawk, Rough-Legged Hawk, and American Kestrel.
